We recently underwent a name change from CL Fund to Bridgeway Capital -- this name change better reflects who we are as an organization, as well as the strategies we have in place for the future. The new name is simply the first step toward many other strategic initiatives to help ignite growth across western Pennsylvania. So how did we determine that a name change was necessary? It was apparent that we needed to clarify our entire identity. From a stakeholder survey in late 2007, we learned that nearly 40% of respondents – borrowers, referral sources, lending partners, investors and funders – indicated the confusing nature of our name as a weakness. We needed a new identity that better reflected our purpose, mission and efforts. An analysis of our organization’s personality and promise led us to these points: - We offer flexible capital to small businesses, acting as a trailblazer to push through obstacles and find the best way for businesses to grow.
- We are determined, open-minded and progressive – much like an entrepreneur.
- We value resourcefulness, accountability, and collaboration with other organizations.
Bridgeway Capital -- and what it means Since Bridgeway Capital connects entrepreneurs and growing businesses with financing and education opportunities, we are literally “bridging the way” from entrepreneurial ideas to actual business growth and economic impact.
“Bridge” conveys this connection, as well as our strong foundation; “way” represents forward progress, versatility and leadership; and “Capital” defines our primary product.
What's next The new name is a reflection of who we are and who we have always been. With this first step underway, we know that our organization's culture, the new name, and our strategic initiatives combined will help us meet our mission of making western Pennsylvania a thriving region for all.
